Could your horse help save others from overweight riders?

 

Leading equine welfare charities, World Horse Welfare and the Saddle Research Trust, have pledged support and financial backing for the latest ground-breaking study which aims to help develop guidelines for appropriate rider weight for horses.

 

The study is being run in collaboration with the Animal Health Trust (AHT), who are asking owners to volunteer their horses to help

Saddle Research Trust Scholarship 2017 Award Winner Announced

 

Rebecca Howsam, who has a degree in Equestrian Psychology and Sports Science, has won the first scholarship to be awarded by the Saddle Research Trust (SRT).  The scholarship attracted many applicants from around the world including candidates from Australia, New Zealand, Finland, USA, Czech Republic and Spain.

 

The scholarship covers all fees to enable the successful candidate to attend the “Principles of Saddle Fitting” certification course to be held at Writtle College in August this year. The course, delivered by Dr. Anne Bondi BHSI, Director of the Saddle Research Trust, focuses on the three-element interaction of horse, saddle and rider. The content provides a wide-ranging mix of theory and practical sessions that give an evidence-based approach to practice.

 

"Rebecca said: I am thrilled to have won this superb SRT Scholarship. It will be highly beneficial for my future career because saddles and saddle fitting, particularly in relation to the improvement of equine performance and welfare, are the areas that I intend to pursue."

New Scholarship Award Announced

 

The Saddle Research Trust has announced the award of a new scholarship for 2017. The award will cover all fees to enable the successful candidate to attend the ''Principles of Saddle Fitting'' certification course to be held at Writtle College from 9-12th August 2017.

 

The course will be of benefit to equine health care professionals, saddle fitters, coaches, stable managers and riders.

 

The scholarship aim is to assist up and coming equine professionals upgrade their CVs with the addition of saddle fit evaluation skills.

To be held from 2nd - 5th November, 2017 at Kestrel Ridge Farms, Calgary, Alberta, CANADA . Organised by the Canadian Institute of Equine & Canine Body Works, in accordance with the Equinology INC and Equinenergy Intl modules.

 

Everything you ever wanted to know about saddle issues! This course will be of benefit to horse owners, riders, coaches, equine therapists, vets, saddle fitters and other equine industry professionals.

 

The course focuses on the three-element interaction of the horse, saddle and rider and discusses methods to identify causal factors when things go wrong. A mix of theory and practical sessions will cover a wide range of topics to provide an evidence-based approach to practice.

The ever present issue of determining appropriate horse:rider weight ratio is currently the subject of media attention, following action taken at both the Great Yorkshire Show and ahead of Horse of the Year Show.

 

Research into this subject is due to be carried out at the Animal Health Trust.

Worshipful Company of Saddlers agrees to Chair Saddle Fitting Steering Group

 

The Worshipful Company of Saddlers has accepted an invitation from leading bodies across the equestrian industry to chair a steering group that will look at education, training and qualifications for Saddle Fitters.

 

Those invited to attend include the British Equestrian Trade Association, British Horse Society, British Equine Veterinary Association, Society of Master Saddlers, Master Saddle Fitting Consultants Society and the Saddle Research Trust.

 

The aim of the group will be to consider the current provision of saddle fitting education, training and qualifications, and guide a response to the needs and changes identified for the future.

SRT International Conference is a resounding success

 

Exciting research on the interations between horse, saddle and rider was presented at the Saddle Research Trust Conference held at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge on Saturday 29th November 2014, generously supported by World Horse Welfare, the British Equestrian Federation, Amerigo Saddles and Horse and Hound Magazine. Around 400 delagates attended the conference, including saddle manufacturers, saddle fitters, coaches, vets, physios and riders. The following quote is just one of many posted on social media following the conference:

 

"Back home again after an inspiring few days at the SRT International Conference and workshops. Heartfelt thanks to all the delegates and sponsors. Your input and expertise will make a real difference to the welfare of horses and riders all over the world. After the high energy and buzz of the public conference came the invitation–only Saddle Research Trust International Research Workshop, which took place at the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket over two days, generously sponsored by Albion Saddlemakers. The workshop provided an opoortunity for the world’s top researchers to share their knowledge and experience in the investigations of saddles, human and equine health and have frank, open discussions around the priorities of future studies.
